Welcome to 6th grade Reading/Language Arts and Social Studies! I'm very excited to be a part of this team. Reading texts is an important avenue for learning in all walks of life. It is important for my students to become active, strategic readers who choose to participate in reading activities. My hope is to effectively contribute to your child's engagement in reading. If we want our children to become truly engaged readers, we must set aside time every day for them to independently select, read, and respond. Research shows that children who have the opportunity to read independently not only become more literate adults, they also, in fact perform better on state tests and other reading assessments. So, please, parents, set aside time every evening for independent reading. Your child was given guidance on choosing reading materials at an appropriate level. Please consider your child's Lexile when choosing texts.
